My stepdad was a truck driver. When he wasn’t working, he was lounging in his favorite chair in his boxers, drinking beer. He was gone for long stretches sometimes. One time, he asked me to tape his favorite show while he was away. When he returned, I handed him the VHS tape. Later on that night, he appeared in my bedroom doorway. He had this shocked look on his face. He handed the tape back to me and left.

Turns out, what I thought was a blank tape was actually a 90’s porn, called ‘Beach Buns’, where the protagonist, a hunky, tanned jock, bottoms for the time at the beach. I’m not sure how much of the tape my stepdad watched before he realized it wasn’t his show, but I’ll never forget that look on his face.
